Rules

The game blackjack has different forms, such as, classic blackjack, Vegas blackjack and European blackjack. The online version of blackjack offers a lot more excitement to the players. Most players may initially find it quite confusing to become familiar with the variations and their inherent rules. But do not worry; we are here to help you out. This article contains some essential tips to be applied in blackjack.

Blackjack Cards

Similar to the real casino blackjack, the online version of blackjack requires you to get a hand as close to 21 as possible before the dealer. However, if the player's hand goes over 21 then they bust and ultimately lose the game. Cards range from 1 to 8 decks, which are the standard of 52 excluding any jokers. All the face cards are valued at 10 each. The ace is worth 1 or an 11. When the ace has a value of 11, then it is considered "soft hand" while the ace with a value of 1 is called a "hard hand".

How to start the game?

In an online casino you start off the game by placing your betted amount on a virtual table and are then given 2 face-up cards. The dealer's face-up card is called the "up card", however, sometimes a dealer is also given an additional face-down card called "hole card".

If the player gets an ace as well as a 10, then they are lucky! You have a blackjack! This automatically makes the player the winner who is then given a payoff of 3 or 2(Provided that a dealer does not get a blackjack as well).

Playing your blackjack hand

After you are done with examining the cards from both the sides, you must take the following steps.

  • Stand: This allows a dealer to make the next move, provided that you refrain from taking any more cards.
  • Hit: This allows you to ask for an additional card, after which you can hit or receive extra cards until you stand or you bust.
  • Double down: Allows the player to double the bet or take up an additional card.
  • Split: If the first 2 cards that you have are of the same value then you have the freedom to split them. The 2 identical hands are become the first cards of the individual new hands. The amount that you initially bet is transferred to the individual hand.
  • Insurance: Provided that a dealer's up-card is represented by an ace, the player has the freedom to take insurance. The insurance is meant to protect the player against the risk of the dealer having an ace. The amount of the insurance equates to 1/2 of the total amount that you initially betted. If a dealer gets a blackjack, then the player gets the insured amount. However, if a dealer lacks a blackjack then the player loses the insured amount.
